
Sandra Hurd was named Associate Provost, Academic Programs for Syracuse University in August of 2005. She is a professor of law and public policy in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management, a core faculty member of the Renee Crown Honors Program and the director of academic affairs for the University's Learning Communities.
Hurd will serve as acting dean of the Graduate School for one year, beginning July 2009.
Hurd has received Whitman School awards for distinguished service and for excellence in teaching, the Tankersley Leadership Award and the Chancellor's Citation for Outstanding Contributions to the University's Academic Programs. She was named a master teacher by the Academy of Legal Studies in Business. She currently serves as the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) in the self-study, evaluation, and re-accreditation process for the university.
Hurd's primary area of research is international product liability and safety, and she has published in such journals as the American Business Law Journal, the Journal of Legislation, the International Journal of Technology Management, the Maryland Journal of International Law and Trade, and the University of Pennsylvania Journal of International Economic Law. 
She co-authored "Using Student Teams in the Classroom" (Anker Publishing, 2000) and "Building and Sustaining Learning Communities: The Syracuse University Experience" (Anker Publishing, 2004.)
Hurd has a B.A. in English from Wells College and a J.D. in Law from Syracuse University.
