FAQs Frequently Asked Questions
Our Mission: To enhance academic performance, student development, and student retention through TSC initiatives and collaboration across the University.
- Who is eligible for tutoring services?
Any undergraduate or graduate student is eligible.
- How do I get a tutor?
All students must complete a tutor request form (each semester). They are available in the TSC office located in Suite 220, 111 Waverly Avenue (above the Henry Health Center). Applications are also available at our website, www.tutoring.syr.edu.
- When should I sign up for a tutor?
Students should be proactive: come in before you "need" the help. Tutoring is a supplement to your study process. Students should also be speaking with professors and TAs for additional course assistance. All tutors are assigned on a first come first serve basis.
- Can I get a tutor for all of my courses?
We have tutors in most courses held at Syracuse University. If we do not have the tutor you need, we will try and recruit one for you.
- Who may tutor?
Undergraduate and graduate students may be tutors. Teaching Assistants (TAs) are not permitted to tutor students in the courses where they hold appointments.*
See "Becoming a Tutor" page.

Where's a good place on campus for quiet study?

*It is the philosophy of The Tutoring & Study Center that TAs may not tutor for courses they are currently teaching. To do so would present a serious ethical issue.
