In 2008, A Long Way Gone, by Ishmael Beah was selected as the Shared Reading book. See more information.

In 2007, Mountains Beyond Mountains, by Tracy Kidder was selected as the Shared Reading book. See more information.

In 2006, The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini was selected as the Shared Reading book. The book and its themes were incorporated into various courses, programs, events, and activities sponsored by SU departments throughout the fall 2006 semester. See brochure.

In 2005, Life on the Color Line: the True Story of a White Boy Who Discovered He was Black, by Gregory Howard Williams was selected as a common intellectual experience for all incoming first-year students. Mr. Williams was the keynote speaker at the Chancellor’s Convocation for New Students during the 2005 opening weekend.
