Since its inception in 2001, The University Lectures has established a reputation for bringing some of world’s finest academicians, architects, designers, writers, business and media experts, and statesmen to the Syracuse University campus. Year after year, speakers have first challenged us to look at the world through a different lens, then drawing from a variety of academic disciplines, they have helped us understand what we see.
The University Lectures is organized and managed by the Office of Academic Affairs. The University Lectures Advisory Committee, under the direction of Associate Provost Kal Alston, reviews speaker recommendations and selects a schedule of speakers based on each speaker’s potential to enhance the academic experience of Syracuse University students, who often have a unique opportunity to interact personally with the speakers in classroom and other settings before or after the lecture event.
Thanks to the ongoing generosity of Syracuse University trustee Robert B. Menschel ’51, and other trustees, alumni, and friends of the University, The University Lectures is recognized as one of the premier lecture series of its kind in the nation, reinforcing Syracuse University’s reputation for intellectual diversity and academic excellence.
