We also seek to serve as resources for those faculty members not yet retired, but who are thinking about possible retirement. We are planning two approaches to help future retirees:
The first approach will involve a panel of emeriti presenting “Lessons Learned,” addressing a range of retirement experiences and arrangements. We recognize that conditions and provisions toward retirement vary considerably across schools and colleges, as well as within colleges. We hope to help future retirees determine what might be negotiated, and what might be available to them upon retirement. Issues to be addressed include:
- a timeline for retirement;
- access to equipment, facilities, and offices;
- access to SU e-mail;
- continuing roles with graduate students and projects; and,
- the variety of ways that emeriti have been staying involved with home departments, schools, or colleges, and with the university and the community.
This panel will of course prove of interest to newer emeriti faculty as well as to future retirees.
A second approach is for the Emeritus Group to arrange for “retirement coaches” for future retirees, upon their request. The group can be reached at email@example.com.
