Welcome message

Photo of emeriti group chair Carol LipsonWelcome to the web home of Syracuse University emeriti faculty, retired SU faculty who have been honored upon retirement for their past and expected future contributions to SU and to their fields of study. Many of the emeriti faculty members continue as active members of the Syracuse University community, and in 2009-2010, with the support of former Vice Chancellor/Provost Eric Spina, an Emeritus Faculty Group was formed. With the help of Bron Adam of the Office of Faculty Affairs, a small group of volunteers developed a survey of the emeritus faculty in 2010, and began the work of creating a viable group consistent with the responses we received. Thus far, this group has planned events with speakers of interest, receptions coinciding with notable performances, and occasions for socializing with former colleagues. This small volunteer group has been assigned its own budgetary identity within the SU system – a huge step in enabling planning and growth.

We look forward to providing future opportunities for emeritus faculty to get together regularly for planned events and for informal socializing. The survey made clear that emeritus faculty – both those who live locally and those who have left the area – wanted to have an accessible website designated for the emeriti, which could provide easy access to information about SU events and changes, and to information about their retired colleagues. With Esther Gray’s help, and with the participation of Carol Masiclat, this has now become possible. We invite our emeriti to keep us informed about their continuing publications – whether in their former area of scholarship or not. And we invite our emeriti to let us know when they receive honors, so we can share this information, and also to keep us up to date on their activities in retirement as well as on their contact information.
