Martha Diede, Ph.D., is the director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence. She comes to Syracuse University from Western Carolina University where she served as the director of the Coulter Faculty Commons for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CFC).
At the CFC, she was responsible for faculty development in face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online teaching environments, the LMS (Blackboard), educational technologies (eg. PollEverywhere), research design support, and leadership development. Prior to that, she held progressively responsible positions in the English Department and the Faculty Development Committee at Northwest University. She is certified with Quality Matters as a Master Reviewer, Peer Reviewer, and Face-to-Face Facilitator and with Paradigm Personality Labs to facilitate the Big 5 Assessment.
She believes that every teacher can improve teaching practice; that learner-centered teaching encourages student success and retention; and that success is iterative. She also honors failure as an integral part of success and the learning process, although personally, she would prefer this not to be so. She is a Seattle native, fond of non-fat Starbucks® lattés.
