New students traditionally participate in a first-year forum or introductory course within their school or college. These courses, and the faculty members who lead them, play an integral role in setting a foundation for students’ future success.
Each school and college has a first-year forum or introductory course partnered with the First-Year Experience Initiative. Faculty members have access to additional support for inclusive teaching, including a leadership professional development opportunity and a Blackboard organization. They also receive increased communication outlining resources, community events and health and wellness activities they can share with their first-year and transfer students to support their transition into college and academic life.
Additionally, students’ participation in the shared reading and discussion experience will be factored into their anchor course final grade.
