New students traditionally participate in a first-year forum or introductory course within their school or college. These courses, and the faculty members who lead them, play an integral role in setting a foundation for students’ future success.
For 2018-19, each school and college identified a first-year forum or introductory course to partner with the First-Year Experience Initiative. Faculty members receive additional support for inclusive teaching, including a leadership professional development opportunity and a Blackboard organization.
Throughout the semester, these faculty members will also receive increased communication outlining resources, community events and health and wellness activities they can share with their first-year and transfer students to support their transition into college and academic life.
Additionally, students’ participation in the shared reading and discussion experience centered on Trevor Noah’s memoir, “Born A Crime,” will be factored into their anchor course final grade.
