Syracuse University has a long legacy of leadership in international education both on campus and abroad. That commitment continues today as a core element of our vision statement to prepare “engaged citizens, scholars, and leaders for participation in a changing global society.” The Internationalization Council was established in fall 2016 to further advance our efforts to ensure that students develop the skills and knowledge needed to live, work, and thrive in a globalized world.
Created under the auspices of the Office of the Provost, the council grew out of a recommendation of the Academic Strategic Plan Working Group on Enhancing Internationalization, which advanced a goal of engaging students with the world from the moment they arrive on campus. This means that we not only are working to expand our global footprint into new regions of the world through international study; we also are committed to sustaining a thriving and inclusive international community of scholars at home in Syracuse. The council is charged with developing coordinated strategies that further an international orientation to the programs and priorities of the University as a whole.
